My name is Chad Haile. I am from Baton Rouge, La. I was born on November 23rd, 1972. At this time in 2017, I have never held any degrees in engineering. Years ago during one semester in high school I took a drafting class, that I admit I flunked, at a time before Computer Aided Drafting.
Everything explained in DBTL has been self taught. I have always loved to draw different things, and over time my interest shifted from freehand drawings to technical drawings. At this point, technical is the only thing I love drawing.
I did most of my growing up in a rural area, and there were times when I would complain to my mom that I was bored out of my mind. My family had one of those great big satellite dishes that could catch many of the present day channels, that you now have to pay for with the use of the little satellite dishes or with a cable box. I had the old and original Atari gaming system. After beating most of the games I had. I still needed something more challenging to do. My mother suggested a few times reading some books. I had for awhile in the back of my mind been thinking of a way to build things out of paper. The real inspiration for the creation of the building process came from boredom, but all of the things that I built were inspired by certain local television shows of the mid 1980s.
Over the years to date I have made many improvements to the construction process. Everything I have ever built has been of my own design. I never really liked to build things that had already been created. For me this art form is fun because of the challenges of figuring out how to make a new design work. Don't get me wrong though! I give big ups to anyone, in any form of art that can recreate something precisely the way it appears. That is something I have yet to do.
